For my topic, I chose to write about and focus on the failing educational system. I wanted to focus on something that has an impact on all of us, even though we don't always notice. Some kids my age think that school is something that can go on and off, and be attended sporadically without any consequences. I'm doing this project to show my peers not only the importance of finishing high school, but college as well. I want to show them how powerful their knowledge can be in the real world.
In the past few decades, the high school dropout rates have been decreasing slowly. However, they are on the rise once again and it goes even beyond high school. About 35% of college freshman drop out every year. While many personal reasons were at fault for the students dropping out, the number one reason was that the students were lazy and did not want to apply themselves. If students realize earlier on (in high school) that hard work cannot be avoided on the road to success, they will be more likely to work harder to get what they want. For many of my peers, none of their dreams are impossible, but nothing comes without drive and will power to get what you want and deserve. We can all start with an education.
